HOW THE MATH WORKS

Exercise scientists rate activities in METs, metabolic equivalents. One MET is what you burn sitting still. Boxing runs from about 5.5 METs for easy shadowboxing up to 12.3 METs for an all-out competitive bout.

The formula is simple: calories per minute equals METs times your weight in kilograms times 3.5, divided by 200. Heavier fighters burn more doing the exact same workout, and intensity matters more than anything else. Ten hard minutes on the bag beats thirty lazy ones.

These are estimates, not lab measurements. Your real burn moves with your effort, technique, and conditioning. Use the number to compare workouts and track progress, not as gospel.

COMMON QUESTIONS

How many calories does boxing burn in 30 minutes?

A 180-pound person doing moderate bag work burns roughly 300 to 350 calories in 30 minutes. Push the intensity and it climbs past 400.

Does boxing burn belly fat?

Boxing burns a ton of calories, and fat loss comes from sustaining a calorie deficit over time. Boxing makes the deficit easier because the workouts are hard and fun enough to repeat.

Is boxing or running better for weight loss?

Both work. Running is simpler to start. Boxing burns comparably per hour and builds coordination, power, and upper-body muscle that running never touches.

How often should I box to lose weight?

Three to five sessions a week, 30 to 60 minutes each, beats one heroic weekend session. Consistency is the whole game.
