HOW TO USE THIS
Type in your normal walking-around weight, not your fight-night weight. The tool finds the smallest class whose limit is at or above your weight. That is the class you would have to weigh in under to fight in it.
Then it tells you the two directions you can go. The number to move down is how much you would need to cut to weigh in under the next lighter class. The number to move up is how much you would need to gain to hit the next heavier class limit. Use those numbers to decide where you actually belong.
CUTTING VS MOVING UP
Everybody wants to be the big guy in a small class, until the cut wrecks them. If the number says you need to cut more than about five percent of your body weight to make a class, that class is probably not yours. You will walk in drained, your legs will be gone by round two, and the smaller guy will eat you alive.
Here is the rule I give every fighter: fight where you are strong, not where you are starving. The best weight class is the one where you can train hard, eat enough to recover, and still make weight without a horror story. Size matters, but energy wins fights.
Moving up is underrated. You lose a size advantage, but you gain cardio, power, and a clear head on fight week. Most beginners should start at their natural weight and only consider a cut after they have real experience with how their body responds.
A NOTE ON THE NUMBERS
The class limits above are uniform across the major sanctioning bodies: WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO all recognize the same 17 divisions and limits. What changes by promotion is the weigh-in procedure. Some allow a day-before weigh-in with rehydration, others enforce same-day limits or second-day weight checks. Always check the rules of the event you are fighting on, not just the class limit.
Amateurs use their own class structure, set by organizations like USA Boxing and World Boxing. If you are fighting amateur, do not use this table, use the amateur classes for your sanctioning body.

COMMON QUESTIONS
How do I find my boxing weight class?
Weigh yourself and find the smallest class whose limit is at or above your weight. If you weigh 142 pounds, your class is welterweight (147 limit), because you fit under 147 but not under 140.
Should I cut weight or fight at my natural weight?
Fight at your natural weight, especially early in your career. A brutal cut leaves you drained on fight night. Only consider cutting after you know how your body handles training, and keep cuts to a few percent of body weight.
Do amateurs use the same weight classes as pros?
No. Amateurs have their own class structure set by bodies like USA Boxing and World Boxing. The limits and even the number of classes are different, so use the amateur table for your organization.
What is the heaviest boxing weight class?
Heavyweight. It starts at 200 pounds and has no upper limit, so fighters of any size above 200 compete in the same division.
